 Projects implemented by the
Azerbaijan Committee Against Tortures (ACAT)

 

 

 

Azerbaijan Committee Against Tortures (ACAT) is realizing the project of “Monitoring of detention centers at the law-enforcement bodies” with support of OSCE's Baku Office.

 

- ACAT realized the project of “Monitoring of tortures facts during court procedures” with support of Embassy of  Great Britain and Northern Ireland. During the project ACAT together with representatives of corporate organizations observed court procedures and investigated torture facts. In the end of the project ACAT published leaflet as a report named “Monitoring of torture facts during court procedures”.

 

 

- ACAT  held project of “Human Rights Training for Police Officers” Laws, Decrees and Conventions with the support of US Embassy in Azerbaijan. In the frame of this project ACAT held trainings with employees of Baku City Main Police Office, District Police station and students of Police Academy concerning to human rights

The Swedish military has accused French soldiers of torturing civilians during the EU-led Operation Artemis in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2003, one of the bloc's first joint missions. Five years ago, the European Union sent some 1,500 soldiers to DR Congo as part of a UN mission to take action against the bandits marauding the north-eastern part of the country. The troops were there to protect the civilians.
